The Adventures of the Great Grass Mud Horse Story Summary: In a land where information is restricted and free speech is suppressed, a citizen tries to break through. He is thwarted by a River Crab, a person creating a harmonious environment by the censorship political criticism. The citizen then crafts a small horse out of grass and mud. He brings the horse to life with magic energies. The Grass Mud Horse is able to sneak past the River Crab access the horrible secrets of the internet!
But oh no! The River Crab discovers the Grass Mud Horse and DESTROYS IT!!! Oh, the Humanity!

Have faith though my friends, the Spirit of the Great Grass Mud Horse lives on. It will rise again. And again, until the River Crabs are overcome and are no more.

The movie features the Grass Mud Horse and the River Crab, both cultural symbols of the battle over internet censorship in China. Grass Mud Horse (草泥马) is phonetically equivalent to Fuck Your Mother! in Chinese. Bloggers and internet activists use the Grass Mud Horse as a symbol for free speech and expression. River Crab (河蟹) is phonetically equivalent to harmony (和谐). Chinese netizens say their deleted posts have been harmonized, or eaten by the river crab. So river crab became a code name for internet censors.
