Update: I have made a new video which shows more of the process of making the snowshoes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RSIzMTfX7A

Yesterday we were making snowshoe frames for the new scouts in my Boy Scout troop. This is just a short video showing the PVC pipe, limp as a noodle, being put into the mold. We fill the pipe with hot sand to make it soft and flexible.

My troop got the idea from an old Boy's Life Article, and build the frames several years before I joined.

  • How much do you want for a pair of those snow shoes? i need some for a hiking trip in 7 days.

  • @fran6283 I don't think I know of anyone who has some they want to sell. We usually just make enough for the people who don't already have them. If you want I can get you some plans and you can make your own, it's not very hard, if you have some help. Here is another video of us working on them, it shows more of the process /watch?v=3RSIzMTfX7A

  • @TacoSaladElectronics see thats the thing i have zero help and do not have a jig so to speak...or the time to make them. was just seeing if you could make something up for me and i could pay you.

  • @fran6283 Well I don't think we will be making any this winter, but if your still interested, I'll try and contact you next winter when we'll have some new guys in the troop that will need them.

  • How did you heat the pvc to get it so flexible?

  • As it says in the description, we fill the PVC with hot sand. We heat the sand on our heavy duty propane cook stove. We might be making some again this month so I may try to put up a new video showing more of the process. Check out the link in the description to see some pics that may help explain the process. Thanks for the interest.
