having a Raven is a lifetime of responsibility. They are great companions only if you have the time for them. They are very much dependent on your friendship with them and will show it either through mood swings or depression. My Raven was legally acquired. In the states there are State and Federal Laws against owning Corvus Corax, but not illegal to own non native species of Corvids. ~Void~
Yrs ago dghtr given pr wht doves. M's ft also such couldn't perch. Decided try fix ft w/splints, padding etc, secured, often replaced, in hope of reshaping. Daily ordeal 4 both of em, tho' bird patient, accepting of handling, attchmnts. 16-yr-old no exper, just gd intuition, devoted care 4 a yr. Event'lly ft reshaped 2 perch & grip 4 mating w/it's ladylove dove. Check w/Bird-Wildlife Spec, what can do 4 yur li'l guy, while still able grow into better form. Always worth try-don't give up. Gd luk!
I have a fledgeling Little Raven (corvus mellori) who could not perch up in the tree away from predators due to her crippled feet. I wish I could release mine like I was planning to, but with her feet she wouldn't survive :( What did u feed urs!!?? He looks like he's really fond of his lunch!!!
Why are you tossing him in the air? If it's a fun game for you, it's not fun for the raven. It's only a fledging...can't fly yet. You should know a lot about ravens to own one. One question for you...how old can a raven grow to be? 15-20 years? NO. 69 years. It's a lifetime companion.
Young birds exercise their own wings quite adequately by flapping. They don't need to be tossed (ever see parent birds tossing their young in the air?), and you're absolutely right, she could cause injury by doing that.
Thank you! I was wondering why the stupid girl was doing that too. My only thought was that she might be trying to make him exercise his wings, so once he's ready, he has the strength to fly? Stupid idea though- he looks like he lands pretty roughly.. She's lucky not to break one of his legs if she keeps that up.
That's a fledgeling, only a few weeks old, and its feathers haven't grown out all the way yet. The white is the feather sheaths which cover the feathers as they grow. I don't know why she's tossing it in the air, it's still too young to fly.

This sucks. It is not a raven, but a young crow, too young to fly indeed.
