I liked that he acknowledged that scientists have shown that gay people are born the way they are and it's in the the brain. I've heard way too many other religious people refer to them as from the devil and other such nonsense.

The priest mentions slavery and how we look back on that now, how ridiculous is it to think slavery is OK - hopefully when future generations look back at today they will feel the same about the lies and homophobia his organisation spreads through the world.

i will agree that it goes against my own preferences, but i happen to know people that are very good that do things you consider a sin... your shallow line of thought is that for the christians it is okay, because they will repent for their wrong doing.
you are not thinking this thing through...but i do enjoy your comments.

i don't feel that way. to me, there is no sin. bad deeds do carry with them an earthly threat...the after-death threat is wholly make believe. if we use the bible as the compass as to what is a bad deed, we will have some strange shit going on here.
jesus and mary are fabled characters (and mary's importance is ridiculous in every regard imaginable).
sex feels good. even friggen popes and priests know that. when men like to have sex with men, who are you to say it is 'bad'?

I mean it should not be seen as a means of pleasure as an end in itself.
"Walk before me and be perfect"
Well, we are all sinners, so if you say the church condemns gays, then it would condem the entire human race(including every prophet pope and saint with the excpetion of Jesus and Mary).

I dont think the injunction in the OT is the main reason why the church condemns homosexual behaviour. I think its the cumulative understanding of not only the bible, but also tradition and the works of teologians over the past 2000 years. The church regards sex as a very sacred and exclusive act for catholic couples and it is about the concpetion of life and not about pleasure. Thats why it condemns heterosxual couples who use condoms. At least this is how I understand it.

Where is the evidence for Papal Infallibility? There is none. "Revelation" does not count as evidence.
So with Papal Infallibility we have someone controlling other people's thoughts - actively forbidding them to question something that "just came to them" and then using that to oppress other people.
-
Comparing Papal Infallibility with people "making up their own mind" whether Barak Obama was born in the US is typical of the misdirection these people use. Barak Obama's birth place is a matter of historical record. The validity of a person's conclusion when they "make up their own mind" is surely going to be dependent on whether that conclusion agrees with the EVIDENCE.

The reason that I protest ideas such as Papal Infallibility is not because the idea is ridiculous - people believe all sorts of stupid things - what I care about is that the idea of Papal Infallibility, Biblical Literalism and so on provides an authority for people not to justify not their beliefs, but their actions. So gay people in the US are denied rights simply because some people use the authority of their bibles to justify it.
The church does not hate gays, nor any sinners (i.e. the rest of humanity). The church despises the sin, not the person.
But people will believe what they want to believe in the church and nowdays its fashionable to peddle this lie despite knowing the truth! And that is bad, in fact close to the great "unforgivable sin"!

eagle: youtube hasn't been getting these comments very well organized lately. was your comment in 'reply' to another?
i've seen the signs that read, "god hates fags", "god hate queers", and "god hates gays", those generally are being flagged around by christians. nobody here should suggest that the catholic church supports such behavior (especially not this priest), however, the catholic church is based on a book. that book reflects a contempt for homosexuality (the so called 'sin').
