@joshonn78 - Charles Mingus was just a bad actor. The cat was a Master at Improvisation. Check out a Jazz bass lesson by father time Milt Hinton. I know you'll want to pick up the instrument even more so.

Who says only pianists get to play in contrary motion?

Less distortion here than the clip with his solo on "All the Things You Are." I recognize the alto player (Charles McPherson) but need to get another glimpse of the trumpet. Faddis was with him briefly, also Johnny Coles.

@35TCK Tapping has been around for a long time. I hate it when people say Van Halen was the first.

This is awesome. Thanks so much for posting!

@LTmattYT everything about this is "Take the A Train". Bass solos do not have to follow the melodic line of the tune. It's an improvisation. Complain to the makers of the video who identify the tune as TTAT.

Some guy: "and yeah, Eddie Van Halen invented two hand tapping in the 80's. . . "
Me: "stop right there. You must not know who charles mingus is, do you?"
