Hats off to Roland Petit who understood how fantastic Pink Floyd is and to all of them for coming together and creating a thing of immense beauty. I would have given BIG to be there

Fair enough, think we're saying the same thing basically. I'm a long time hardcore Floyd fan, but people seem to get so myopic in there views -that is what I was trying to put across...

JroNC I see what you're saying of course but I think you may missunderstand a little bit.
Pink floyd WAS doing things that the rest of the musical word wasn't. So were other bands, but they were all different in their originality. Pink Floyd was most certainly doing things quicksilver messenger service wasn't, but the same holds true vice versa.

Pink Floyd were always far from all the other bands..They constantly did things no one did at that time. GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think what sets floyd apart is the intellectual approach, that solid layer sitting on top of their music.
simply put they're soaring somewhere higher then the rest of the hard rocking, head banging bands...
quite possibly people in many of these bands were more musically gifted than the floyd but they didnt seem to be capable of setting higher goals than expressing a specific emotion through nice melodies, good sounding harmonies and entertaining music overall.
