A.E Brumley, from the film O Brother where Art Thou?
Choral Fusion Concert, 28th March 2010, Birmingham Recital Hall

Choral Fusion is an innovative music and cultural development project. It celebrates the diversity of Birmingham (UK) by bringing together community choirs and individual singers across the city of birmingham to make a new music together as one, big, intergenerational community choir.

Introduction

Welcome to this presentation of songs that have been shared by the four singing groups involved in Choral Fusion over the three months. At the beginning of the year the choir leaders wrote some imaginary 'reviews' of the evening's event, and from thoese 'reviews' came the themes of flight and movement, which have inspired the songs performed in the event. We therefore hope that this evening's sharing will take you on a many faceted journey (with time to rest!) exploring flying, walking, trains, dancing, sailing, time, and moving towards freedom and enlightenment.

As well as being involved in weekly swap sessions, the choirs have met up for four open sessions to explore their different styles furthur, and these sessions have also been opened up to individuals who are not involved in a choir. These sessions have been about finding common ground; exploring each others backgrounds; sharing songs from childhood and devising new ones; sharing food, and have involved everything from paper aeroplanes and graphic scores to the creation of an ideal "fantasy" choir!

Some of tonight's music is still "work in progress" and the Choral Fusion Massed Choir will continue to meet over the coming months to develop their journeys further.

There has been a great sense of comradeship and community fostered on this project and as such, most of the songs involve at least two choirs singing together.
We hope hope that you will bear with the necessary moving about of singers that is a natural consequence of this, indeed, that it becomes part of the constantly changing journey that we are about to embark on.

Thank Yous

Sound it Out would like to thank the choir members who have taken part in Choral Fusion to date. Your contributions continue to make this project rich and diverse in content and a hugely enjoyable experience.
