@connorryan By lying to a divided country, half of which had decided 4 years before that they would swallow everything that he had to say and beg for more. The most fucked up thing is, even now, after all the lies, and the lives lost because of them, they STILL believe every word out of his crooked mouth.

How was he re-elected after all this?

For some reason the first part didn't post.
In 1991 the IAEA inventoried and sealed ~500
tonnes of yellowcake at Tuwaitha. Some was
sold, with IAEA supervision, in the 1990s.
The rest was still there, still sealed, when
the IAEA inspected in February, 2003.
It had NOT been diverted to a weapons program. Iraq no longer had a nuclear weapons program.

There are two bigger problems with the
"Everybody believed it" argument.
1) No one making that argument is privy to what _everyone_ believed, few are privy to what even _one_ intelligence service believed.
2) It's not true. UNMOVIC certainly did no believe it--and it was their job to find out!

Probably Jay Rockefeller said those words. Thomas Paine would hate what has happened to our country. Grab Common Sense and the Rights of Man and read it. This guy hated hereditary rule, the passing down of power through generations.
If you don't know who Thomas Paine is, find out. We need him now more than ever.
2.2 tonnes of low-enriched reactor fuel, bought from Italy, were also 'found' early in 2003, again still under IAEA seal just like it was in 1998.
However, after the invasion Tuwaitha was looted, the barrels containing the yellowcake were stolen BUT NOT THE YELLOWCAKE. The looters dumped the yellowcake and stole the barrels! The US called in the IAEA to clean up the mess and reinventory it. No significant amount was missing.

You're right, Fred. I clearly remember watching a 2003 newscast from Fox showing TONS of Iraqi Yellowcake uranium found in Italy, thus justifying the invasion of Iraq and proving Bush was right all along.
Don't believe me, just search here on YouTube. I'm sure there must be 100 copies of that newscast on here (Okay, now let's see how many dumb neocons actually go looking for it.)

I guess the White House, David Kay, the Iraq Study Group, Ambassador Joe Wilson and UNMOVIC were all mistaken then. Thanks for the heads up.

The problem with the "Everybody believed it" argument is *HOW* they chose to respond. The Clinton Administration kept the inspectors in Iraq until he was disarmed. And the "No-fly Zone" kept Saddam in check, a threat to no one. The Bush Administration, in contrast, removed the only check on Iran we had by overthrowing Saddam, destabilized the country and the entire region, and trapped us into a quagmire with no exit strategy.
