Please read the description for the updated refined portal chess ruleset.
***UPDATE***Both portals cannot be occupied at the same time ***** If your own chess piece is occupying a portal, you cannot pass another one of your own pieces through the unoccupied portal *****suggested by TheSleepwalka

Portal Chess Refined Rules

1.The aim of portal chess is the same as chess

2.Players place their portals anywhere on the fourth row from the players side before commencing a game

3.You can only control your coloured portal

4.A piece passes through a portal unless the portal is blocked

5.A piece can be blocked from entering a portal if a piece of the same color is on the other side.

6.A piece can take pieces by using the portal

7.Both portals cannot be occupied at the same time

8.A piece can check/checkmate people using the portal

9.A piece must exit the portal in the direction it traveled into the portal

10.A portal can be moved onto a piece causing it to teleport. *Unless the other portal is occupied*

11.A player has a choice to move a chess piece or the portal piece in one turn, not both.

12. If your own chess piece is occupying a portal, you cannot pass another one of your own pieces through the unoccupied portal

13.A piece can enter either portal regardless of colour

14.Portals can not occupy the same square

15.A portal can be moved regardless of whether it is occupied or not, the occupying piece does not move with the portal

16.If a piece occupies one portal and a whole turn phase end without the piece moving from the teleporter it does not teleport.

17.A Knight can jump over a portal piece

18.A pawn can become a queen by using a portal

Question by "bereshit" on reddit :
"White has a portal on b3 and pawns on a2, b2 and c2.
Black has a portal on b7 and a pawn on b7.
Which white pawn(s) can capture b7?
Does b2 move into the portal and capture by teleportation?
Or is it treated as if the b7 pawn were on b3? Blocking b2, but capturing possible from a2 and c2?"

Answer: dawsx said "I feel like it would make the most sense if the pawn at b2 can't move into the portal unless the other end is empty, and the a2 and c2 pawns can only move into the portal if there's a capture. Keeps with the established pawn movement rules. That said I don't know if the move b4 should be considered legal in this case."

One can also take by moving the portal on b3 onto the pawn on b2, the pawn on b2 would then be teleported to the portal on b7 taking the pawn on b7.

-----Video Goofs---------------

1: At 1:51 I was demonstrating the portal acting as an obstical stoping the bishop from checking the king. The check after moving it through the portal was unintentional.

2: "The board is set up incorrectly-- white's rook in the right corner should be start off on the white square." User: vntraderus

3: At 3:33 I refer to the "Knight" as a "Horse" .

I takethat it's not possible to castle trough as portal, right? Also, is en passant still possible if the pawn that moves 2 squares goes trough a portal? I think it should be.

Im going to personaly say no you cant "castle" through a portal for now as it can only happen under strict enough rules already However "En passant" is a definite yes.

this is a fake video, it's all camera tricks. those pieces aren't really going into a portal and existing the other side. if they were you would win a Nobel Prize for physics.

I know they're supposed to be just portals on the floor, but the way they're set up make me think of teleporters in TF2. So every time I capture an opponent's piece that was sitting on a portal, I'll just imagine my piece telefragging theirs. >:D

I think you're taking this a smidge too seriously, given what was said at the very beginning of this video.

I see that in portal chess, you originally set the board up sideways.
