....and there have been co-stars out there who have said over the years that Shirley knew their lines too, and helped them during rehearsals! She was truly an amazing little girl who grew up to be an amazing woman!

I wish I could transport myself back in time to the day when they rehearsed & filmed this. Maybe I'm wrong - maybe it was grueling - but I'd love to have been one of the stand-ins in the background. It looks like it was a lot of fun to watch!

This song and dance shows how wonderfully talented both Shirley Temple and Buddy Ebsen were. Neither misses a beat, and the song is infectious as well. Buddy's choreography doesn't seem to be a challenge to Shirley, who keeps up with Buddy every step of the way. Shirley was one of a kind for sure. Not many kids can even sing on key, let alone tap dance and act. What a wonderful reminder of Hollywood's golden era when everyone seemed to be so unique and talented in whatever it was they did.

This, for me, is Shirley's best dance number. And film.

Not Guy Kibbee--a very young Buddy Ebsen. What a great dancer he was!

There were so many ways for this dance scene to go wrong - tripping, falling off a raised platform, knocking something over, etc... - but they did the dance beautifully!

    Wow!

Then Shirley age 8 and Buddy 28. Buddy was in the Wizard of Oz until he was poisoned by makeup and Shirley had been offered the starring role but Zanuck declined it.
