@joelweisberg wholeheartedly agree. it's annoying when the anthem is embellished with unecessary vocal gymnastics. when beatifully sung in its pure form, as Marc Anthony does here, the anthem is extremely moving.

Probably the best public-event rendition I've ever heard of our national anthem. Totally changed my opinion of Marc Anthony when I heard him sing it on the original broadcast. It blew me away. Most notable is that he desn't f*ck with the melody at all, which is where most singers go astray and ruin it. Nope, he sings it straight, with reverence, respect, and honor....but with passion and dignity. Bravo Marc, my hat goes off to you. This is a classic performance and the watermark.
