Alexis and Stefan go to Natasha's grave. After some bribing, the caretaker agrees to dig up the coffin but when it's opened there's nothing to be found inside but a slip of paper with code on it. Stefan checks the cemetary log and finds that the grave was purchased by a Kimberly Bell. From here, Stefan puts the pieces together as he knows them.

So if Alexis set up the whole security code in the grave then she must know herself that Natasha isn't dead because she knows Katherine isn't Natasha.
