Summer Games 2008
324 locations 250,000 youth 10 weeks
The largest ever youth initiative in Gaza
Building on the success of Summer Games 2007, UNRWA implemented a bigger and better programme for 250,000 youth in summer 2008.
Activities were expanded to provide children with an even greater variety of choice. Five programmes were offered, with children able to participate for up to four weeks sports, arts and crafts, multi-activity, beach-side and a Young Talent programme for particularly gifted children.
Summer Games 2008 culminated in a series of festivals and performances in late July and August. The final festival was attended by over 11,000 children and parents and special star guest, former Liverpool and England footballer John Barnes.
Through Summer Games, youth are provided with creative learning experiences, room for self-expression, and opportunities to develop their skills foundations upon which the potential for a better future rest.
