Jeremiah Satterfield and Eric Martin live at the Asheville Arts Center, opening for Betting for Benson. The first failure of the electric guitar. We're not afraid of showing our failures! Unfortunately, the lead near the end suffered from the transition to acoustic, because it wasn't written for it. And on top of that, the guitar was slightly out of tune.
Fool's Paradise
Words y music by: Eric Martin
Know how hard it is to get up every day
And watch all of you play the game that you play
To keep your lives going on one little track
Gotta tell you now, well I'm done with that
I've seen it every day since I could think
Back stabbing, drug dealing, kids in the street
And I want you to know I've been watching you all
Not one's tried to change how the dice fall
See, I've got this problem that I confront
There's nothing left in life to help me get up
What's the point if all of the things that you love
Have left you with nothing but what you dream of?
And dreams, I've found, are quite fickle things
They'll show you something and then lead you to think
That the things that you've seen are not just a dream
But a shade of reality; a thing to believe
And you run through the Shadow of the Valley of Shame
Trying to catch up with old what's-her-name
Trying to hold on to the time that you knew
It got faster and faster and how the time flew
One day you're on top, the prospects are all clear
The next day you're desperate to get out of here
Sick of the things that you've known all your life
And you dream that the world will have things to suffice
Maybe I'm wrong, I've been dreaming too long
But no one will listen for I am too young
They say I'm confused but my mind is all free
I see things and know that's not how it should be
But in the grand scheme of things that doesn't count for much
And everyone just tells me I'm making a fuss
I've got a question for you, would this place even be
If some rebels like me hadn't dared to dream?
I can see it coming soon, the end of all things
Can we settle down and realize we're all human beings?
Take time from our lives and learn how to give?
Can we ever band together, and learn how to live?
Great work! I love this song. It was well written and even with the Electric Guitar not working and having to be replaced the song still worked.
