"Angry Friday" is a song telling the story and recapturing the events and climax of January 28th; the day that symbolizes everything our revolution stands for. As the tendency to forget is part of human nature, the purpose of this song is to remind us humans. . .

The song was written by Digla's lead singer Tarek Borollossy in February/March 2011. The full band version will follow sometime in 2012

Peace and Love . . . One Egypt . . . The Revolution must go on

Lyrics:

Let me tell you a story about a memorable day
In Cairo, January 28
They call it angry Friday, remember the name
It's the day we put our lives on the line for freedom and change

The word was out before they spat in our face
And stripped us of the right to communicate
Internet and cell phones swept away
The government is treating us again like slaves

The sky is perfect and the code is clear
We make our way down after the Friday prayers
Take a taxi; get near the affair
Walk a few miles to the downtown square

Confrontation with the forces of hell
A devil's herd, a.k.a "dakhleya"
They block the roads, as they prepare to kill
We march in peace, scramin out "silmeya"

Advance no further or prepare to die
Unleash the tear gas and make them cry
We are the system and you'll pay the price
We've got you cornered and we'll spare no lives

Our Brothers in black were just a pawn in the game
Compelled by superiors; a crying shame
Destroy the up-rising whatever it takes
Burn the city; light it up in flames

The bullets fly and the snipers aim
Together we stand, a stone in our hand
The chain of command can't stand in our way
The promise of man, inspired to redeem his land

Hours pass, people start to grasp,
The power of momentum is building up fast
We're being surrounded; but that won't last
The semi-empty streets are crowding up full blast
Power to the people, let everyone see
We're standing up tall for humanity
Unprecedented in our history
The will of man to die or be free

Enough is enough, kefaya 7aram
The people have spoken and the millions are here
Al sha3b yourid eskat el nezam
Edging closer to the heart of Tahrir

Seven hours of battle shape a war zone nation wide
Ministry of interior is falling captive to courage and pride
Now we got to make the people beg for their safety that only we could provide
Release the prisoners and dress up the police in civilian disguise
And just when they think they've got us, we'll send these troops out to terrorize
Let them infiltrate and loot and spread the fear of chaos and demise
Utilize the national TV to manipulate their simple minds
And ultimately let the midnight speech of Pharaoh be your green light

We conquer the square, finally, we're here to stay, Not leaving this place until he leaves
We stand our ground, starting today, the 28th, make it a symbol for a revolution of peace
8 pm, tanks enter the streets, approaching from Ramsis, the army's arrived
To crash the party of liberty, curfew my behind, time to celebrate, Egyptian style
Temporary victory, the longest road is about to begin from here

Criminal regime, crooked NDP, Corrupt police, suspicious military,
Blind society, brainwashed and living in fear, ignorance and greed
A tyrant at the peak of an authoritarian dynasty, (that's been)
So deeply entrenched for the past thirty years
Wonder what next is up their dirty sleeves
We'll at least we got Tahrir, its ours, we're here to stay, and we aint afraid, no more

We believe . . . in Freedom . . .in Equality . . .and Freedom

  • @yaraMokh Hey, i really appreciate how you said, what you said. Everyone else here seemed to call my mother names, just because i "critiqued" the artist, because they're probably "a friend"

I would like to know what it is you like about this song, and i'll tell you, what it is i hate about it....and hey, i completely agree that people have different tastes, that's why we have these different genres.

  • @3DSamy There's No Such Thing As A "Bad" Taste In Music..There Are Simply Different Ones...And Even Though It Is True That Everyone Is In Fact Jumping On The Revolution Wagon, This Is By Far The Most Expressive And Original English Song Showing What We've Really Been Through!..But Then Again..It Is All A Matter Of Opinions..People Are Different :D
