War has always been judge by those who never experiance it. This song hits home for me, I spent 21 years in the Marines, I lost many brother in arms in war. Unless you have picked up a rifle and fought to protect your country, which ever one that is, it is hard to explain what happens to your mind and way of thinking. In the live video Billy Joel has vets signing back up, wish that one was still on, they keep pulling it. Semper Fi, enough said

Soldiers fight for what we believe and love?! What bullshit! You mean the soldiers that gunned down Jewish civilians in German ghettos in the 1930's/40's? Or the ones in Vietman in Mai Lai who massacred a village of civilians? THIS is what you believe and love?! Soldiers do what they're TOLD to do. Very moving song from Billy, who wrote it from his heart after hearing accounts of the terrible ordeals some of his friends had been subjected to during the conflict. He dodged the draft and was sceptical about composing such a track as it would have seen hypocrytical coming from someone who didn't go to Vietnam, but he was convinced it would act as a tribute to those who did serve, and subsequently all his fans were rewarded with a lasting memory which we can listen to when we please.

But all the man en woman hou fiting for there freedom in Irak en Afganistan and all they have fiht in Bosnie, Libannon and the other Wars. We never forget them but also the man that survied it . This song made its point then, it still does today. WW11 was the last absolutely last resort war, so why in Hell are American, British (I'm British), and other country's soldiers dying all round the globe still today? In the 21st century we should have found a better way to solve the world's problems. Perhaps we should start by stopping the arrogant speculators manipulating the future misery of the less fortunate in Society.
