  • hey greenpowerscience, i have 1 cool geeky interesting quastion for you.

how big of parabolic lens would i need to reflect sunlight too melt a piece of pure tungsten metal. :)

  • @veryfuck Hi, A Fresnel Lens would be the best choice. I have tried a 20 sq ft lens but did not work except for a bulb filament. The 1/8" rod would not budge.

  • doesnt just a plain tv screen work?

  • @mikemorr100 No, they are now diffused as of 1990. They only warm stuff up.

  • where would the best place be to get a lens from, best value. Would love to learn to camp with one, alot of sun out here.

    thanks.

  • Why do images of Aztec civilisation comes in my mind ??

  • This method could be employed to build a foundry melting device.

  • I like this and many of your other vids but, not all of us are experimenters and a practical application would be useful. So, how about showing us how to build the fresnel solar oven including parts list. Thanks for the science.

  • That has to be the healthiest slim jim ever.

  • Dan is making diet Slim Jims for those of you who are counting calories. You can find them on his website too. Or get the DIY kit, 1 lens and 2 Slims, on sale this week only, and make your own lo-cal shnecks.

  • where can i get one of these lens?

  • Would it be possible to make a solar foundry that can be used for melting copper and aluminium for casting into ingots?

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE you mean you tried to melt the filament of a lightbulb with the lens?

Tungsten has a melting point of 3420 Celcius thats the highest melting point of any steel.

what is the highest temperature you ever get with a fresnel lens?. it would be very cool to melt some steel with a fresnel lens.

    thanks for your answer.
