Celtic Mayhem performs the traditional 13th Century Sephardic love song "A La Una Yo Naci" at the 2009 Florida Renaissance Festival in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

With Ty Billings on lead vocals and guitar, Jack Stamates on fiddle, and Martyn Wylde on bass guitar, plus guest musician Tree McInnis on Bodhran.

The language is Ladino. Roughly translated, the song says:

"At one I was born
At two I grew up
At three I took a lover
At four I married
I married a lover

Tell me little girl where do you come from
That I want to get acquainted
If you have no lover
I will defend you
Soul, life, and heart

Going off to war
I threw two kisses into the air
One is for my mother
The other is for you"

Best viewed in High Definition if possible (the HD button), although YT admits that HD 720p format is still in beta and may be jerky or out-of-sync on a slow connection. You will get best HD performance by letting the streaming file complete download first before playing.

  • Ty- your voice is perfect for this song. You sing it better than anyone else I've heard!

  • @rmcdaniel423 i actually think its a violin or a fiddle... Jack's KILLER... should listen to him when they do a cover of Devil Went Down To Georgia! holy hell!

  • pfff!!!! c'est complétement dénaturé alors que ce chant est si beau au départ! l'esprit n'y est pas, c de la démonstration de médiocrité.

  • We did this song at a medieval play in drama at school. I don't think my drama teacher knew what it meant cuz it didn't go along with the play. Haha. Oh well... Noone else knew either ;)

  • The fiddle player is PHENOMENAL!! Is that a violin or a viola? It kinda sounds too rich and deep to be a violin, but I'm not sure.

    Great rendition of this song!!

  • don't steal other people's culture celtic. Jews suffered in what now is Espana at the hands of Catholics
