This is what I think the future of Atlanta Train system should be in the next 50 years to make atlanta a Transit friendly City

I do want to be a transit planner when I get out of college

  • @RichieEastside I wonder if you've ever have ridden MARTA before. It's the largest transit system to date that isn't funded by it's OWN state. It's highly OVERUSED, and doesn't even expand past the 285 perimeter. You can't even find a seat during rush hour, but while you people are stuck in interstate traffic, the subway gets everywhere faster. :P I actually don't mind paying taxes for it, but you conservative scum parade on using cheap buses. That's inefficient!!!!

  • This is a pretty cool video, but I don't ever see rapid transit working like this in Atlanta. The system is already one of the most expensive in the country and entirely underused. If they made any more lines or extensions the fare would go up past $5 a trip. Completely inefficient, in my opinion.

  • Hey, are you still interested in transit planning? HB 277 is coming up and we need advocates to get transit on the bill. Message me for more information

  • Originally the federal funds used to build MARTA were meant for Cincinnati - while it and Atlanta had similar populations, Cin was more dense and better suited for rapid transit. There was to be a county-wide tax for Cincinnati-Hamilton Co to build the system, and it was supported by BOTH Republicans and Democrats, but poo-pooed by small-minded politicians and blowhards like Tom Luken here. The federal match was thus lost, Atl got MARTA, and Cincinnati has an underfunded bare-bones bus system.

  • @intellisexii Marta expansion was up for a vote in Gwinnett in 2008 and Republicans stood up against it. Believe it or not Racism still is a big factor in its expansion.

  • Hopefully with the Beltline that will connect with marta at points more transit expansion will be looked at. However, as long as Marta is not state funded I do not see any of these things happening.

  • The east west line needs to extend to six flags

  • Okay if three states can get together and have the same public transportation system, why can't three or four counties do it. I think it is ridiculous.... This needs to happen....

  • The state has got to start funding MARTA. Expanding the rail system would relive so much traffic.
