I hate when people bring up past policy mistakes like it should preclude a country from ever intervening overseas again.

you would be right if talking about rational leaders. but, religious fanatics don't care if they "lose." That is what self-sacrifice is. That is what radical Islam is. It is an ideology of suicide. Hitchens exhibits a degree of sophistication and understanding seldom seen in discussions of this type.

@BelfastAtheist Why you are against a war on Iran to steal the oil? Iran has 10% of the world's proven oil reserves according to the US Department of Energy/2011. I think it's a good business. Are you really afraid that a weak country like Iran will retaliate? I mean, they can not fight back...

People are saying they'll nuke the World, 2 Americans in the last week (Who naively trust their preposterous Politicians and prostrate Media) have sent me alarmist messages saying we need to bomb Iran before they bomb us! This is serious War propaganda here, it's mostly 'false tension' really, create Tension to justify sanctions, forced International exile, Economic stangulation, never-stopping threats, a string of assasinations.. what If Iran did ANY of this to you?

It's a bit more complicated, you're right about Hitchens - but the U.S Intelligence/Army nexus are unanimously against aggression against Iran, it's only Israel that wants to dominate Iran (But it can't do it without the help of the Giant, i.e the U.S) for Regional reasons.. it's a friend of Syria, pretty independant/not submissive to U.S/Israeli power, it's (on paper at least) a friend of the Palestinians, it could potentially be a Regional power, hence Sanctions.
