I composed, recorded and made this video of my song "April 24th" for my parents, Dimitri and Anne Vorobiov.

April 24th. It was a rainy Sat morning, a day my wife and I had planned to drive to Virginia and see my parents. From Nashville it's a 10 1/2 hour drive with good weather, so we decided to err on the side of caution and leave on Sunday instead, hoping the Sunday sun would shine for us, to my hometown of Woodbridge.

My parents are old, not their minds or spirits, but their bodies. Mom is 85 and Dad is 86. They're reminded daily of years gone bye, with their respective aches and pains. Knowing this, my parents wanted to pass on their heirloom items to us before, you know, "that day". This is why we were to drive, to visit for a few days, load the car with their personal treasures and hear the stories of how they came to be acquired. Plus it was just too much stuff to bring on an airplane and most items too fragile to ship, so we thought driving would be fun, but the rain held us back a day.

So, that wet and soggy Sat morning, I was reflecting on the journey we were about to make and the reasons why. I picked up my guitar and wrote the song, April 24th, thinking of my parents and how fortunate I've been to have them for so many years. I'd hit the parent lotto. The song came as quickly as the rain fell, I have my wife, Kathy, grab the HD camera and we shoot some impromptu video of the new tune written only moments earlier, plus some rain shots, and then we pack for the trip north the next day.

We arrive in Woodbridge safe but tired, around 8:30 pm Sunday. It was great to see my Mom, Dad and my oldest sister Marie and catch up on each others worlds. About an hour so later, a knock is heard on the door of life and it's Hell looking for my Dad. He passes out, sweating profusely, 911 is called and he's taken to the emergency room. This surreal experience coupled with the reasons mentioned of why we made the trip in the first place, is hitting really close to my heart.

In the ER, they find my Dad is anemic and bleeding somewhere in his GI tract, units of blood are given over the course of a few days, eventually the internal bleeding stops on it's own. Through all the testing they find evidence of a heart attack and, thankfully, my Dad remains stable. In short, after over a weeks stay in the hospital, he's home, regaining strength and voraciously reading, as he always has.

My wife Kat and I return home. Now, that day "April 24th" and the namesake song that wrote itself, means even more to me, and I set about finishing it. It's another reminder to hold those whom you love, strongly, and let your hearts touch. Hold them as though it's the last time you'll see them, cause one day you'll be right....

I loved a lot of stuff you've done over the years, Greg. But this is one that speaks to my soul. Not just the story and usual artistry I've grown accounted to but the connection to the imagery the song inspires....not just in pictures but in Spirit.  You been apportioned an amount of giftedness that I'm not certain this world can fully appreciate. Thanks for sharing, brother. You lift both spirit and mind.
