  • from pitch black to low res black white must be awesome though!

  • If I was blind and I had to choose between the 90 pixel one now, or the 1000 pixel one 5 years from now I would wait. Assuming it would not be easy to do an "upgrade". The 90 pixel one just does not seem that much like sight, but with 1000 you can basically see what's going on.

Think about computers: in 1960 only governments and the very biggest companies and universities had computers. Now somebody on food stamps probably has a personal computer. AND that computer is more powerful than everything NASA and MIT put together had in 1960.

Technology increases in capability and decreases in cost over time.

Right. It's like the way that only the very rich could afford the first cell phones. Now even people on welfare have cell phones. Children on welfare have them.

  • Imagine a world without religion. Science progress would be accelerated many times.

  • I wonder how long it will take before colour vision is developed.

  • @Vampus as long as the optic nerve is in working condition, the implant will work.

  • While the first version I'm not sure would be worthy to implant, the second one certainly would allow a person to navigate with relative safety and regain more of their independence. Interesting she says "degenerating retinas" though. Would that imply it might not work on someone who is actually blind?
