b. Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.

Bill Brandon started his recording career recording for small local labels such as Tower and Quinvy most notably with his version of the Dan Penn song 'Rainbow Road'.

He later signed up with Sam Dees Moonsong / Piedmont label in the late sixties.

He acted as an in house writer / artist writing such songs as 'Stop This Merry Go Round' (which was a hit for John Edwards) and recording Southern ballads such as 'I'm A Believer Now' and 'Tag, Tag'.

Funky tunes such as 'Stop This Merry Go Round' and 'Let Me Be Your Full Time Groover' (with Lorraine Johnson) along with modern anthems such as 'The Streets Got My Lady' and 'Whatever I Am I'm Yours' were also popular.

On leaving Sam Dees production team he linked up with Moses Dillard and Jesse Boyce who wrote and produced his only album for Prelude in 1977 entitled 'Bill Brandon'.

Two singles emerged from the album. 'We Fell In Love While Dancing' became his only hit.

Bill is now said to be running a club in America's South.

  • Fantastic track and all the info, it's so interesting thanks Jim x

  • Just a note. Both the "Essential Modern Soul" CD and the Soul Supply LP mentioned below are BOOTLEG compilations. Avoid 'em!

  • he makes nice music but was a rolling stone, he's my grandfather and i done seen him twice in my whole life, o well his loss

  • @loobycliff To be fair, there's a bit of difference between the 1976 price (about £1) and today's going rate (something over £200!), so it's probably down to reputable CD compilations for most people - However, this has always been the case if you weren't lucky enough to be around at the time!

  • @drwhatson Well said doc - people, don't support bootleggers, just use discogs.com or something like that and get the originals!
