Everyone who lived through the Great Depression in Pennsylvania has a story to tell. Local residents share stories of the events that shaped their lives during this difficult period in history.
My dad was orphanned in the great depression, He was given to his uncle, raise on a farm. He always wonder wy he was given up and not his younger sisters, It always bothered him until the day he died! He always raised rabbits, i beleive it was because, that is what they ate alot of back then.
I relate to these people they're interviewing. I had to survive the Dirty 30s also. They modern people couldn't handle what we went thru in the 30s. These folks were like me, they were very young, but it was something you never forget.
@ilovety65 the entire depression era generation had it "real rough"......like my late father.......he was 2 years old when his dad died in the 1918 Flu Epidemic.....he had to start working at 12 to help support his mother and sister.....he made it through the depression.....then was drafted in the army for 6 years in ww2, disabled vet.....they even tried to draft him again for the Korean war because they wanted officers... but he was so filled with shell fragments he got out of it
all these depression era people were hard core survivors and learned well from their experiences. I learned very well from my late fathers stories and always lived financially conservative. If a 1929 style depression hit the USA I have no doubt there would be people killing each other for food and shelter.....the new generation is used to too many luxuries
