In Peter Philpotts book 'The Art of Wrist Spin Bowling' Philpott describes spinning the ball back in towards the body from an outstretched arm in order to put back-spin on the ball. Using this practice technique you can adapt your wrist position 'Going round the loop' in order to produce the 'BIg Leg Break' and the slider. See http://spinbowling-legbreak.blogspot.com/ for more info on learning wrist spin bowling techiques and join in the discussions at http://www.bigcricket.com/forum/t70231-77/#post381643

  • I have recently started to bowl left arm wrist spin(Chinaman) and its working wonders. As a left armer I was more into bowling left arm off spin but I never enjoyed it. Since I've just got into the groove I have never tried any wrong uns(Infact I can't bowl one)

when I bowl left arm wrist spin I get a scar on the inside of my index finger. First the outer skin came off and now its getting pretty nasty. If I try on a plaster I cant impart as much spin as would like to. how can I avoid?

  • @rampadma on the bigcricket website somewhere (Spinners threads) one of the blokes suggests a couple of ways of reducing this or helping to heal it quicker, Have a look around on there and see if you can find it. Or just search 'spinners finger cures' or something like that in google.

  • When I bowl my obs's (idk what slider means anymore and neither does skw apparently), I use my index finger to push the ball forward while increasing the backspin...wondering if others do the same or have found better ways to maintain the ball's forward momentum without compensating too much spin

  • @shutuprafa You need to get on the forum and talk to Jim or get him on here (Jim2109). Interesting to hear you comment about the interpretation of 'The Slider' and the fact that Warne doesn' even know what it means. You should read the new book that's out at the moment 'The twirlymen' in that the writer talks about all the bluffing that goes on with all the differing names for the same delivery and deliveries that never existed.

  • @johnnycheck99 Have a look at my channel click on my name on here and I think it links you to it? Other than that I'll PM you .

  • @someblokecalleddave1 Where are your videos with the new 'bound' posted and under what title?

  • @johnnycheck99 Yeah almost impossible! If you ever get a chance try and see the Terry Jenner section of the current ECB spin video, Jenner does it perfectly. Keep working at it, as long as you're in for the long haul you're only going to get better. Today after 4 years of this, I've changed my bowling action massively - I now have a 'Bound' and it looks like it is going to make a massive difference to my bowling. Like you I can't wait for the season to start!

  • I find all that 'backspin' and 'slider' stuff very complicated. But in the nets i have been spinning the ball away from the bat consistently well- even bowling a couple of blokes behind their legs and getting a few stumpings. I try and put everything into the delivery but my action is far from perfect. I feel i have something to work on and i enjoy practising. can't wait for the dry weather and the chance to bowl on my own in some nets.

  • @johnnycheck99 Yeah, as I recall, Philpott says it just has to be smooth and suit you. The length of the run up isn't that important and I'd say that if you're struggling with the run up, start with the stand start drill, work with that and see how that improves your bowling and then work back off of 1 step and so on till you find your rthymn.

  • I have just begun leg-spin and i have Peter Philpotts book which is very good. Is it best to have short run up-or even a couple of paces and then put everything you can into the action? I seem to struggle with a run-up!!
