In my comment on testpilotmonkey's playthrough of Prehistoric Level 7, I said that the top-left cage cannot be unblocked before getting the key on the original BBC Micro version because it requires a skull shuffle. This is not quite true. Because there are two rocks, Repton is able to move left and down before both rocks fall, and so push the second one right, as shown in this video.

(For those not in the know, I call this manoeuvre a "skull shuffle" because the prototypical example, as in my video of Africa Level 7, involves preventing a rock falling the wrong way off a skull. It can be any curved object; in this example it's a diamond.)
