President Barack Obama on Wednesday nominated UC Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law Associate Dean and Professor Goodwin Liu to a seat on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Liu, 39, is a nationally recognized expert on constitutional law and education law and policy.

A Democrat, he'll have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate to this lifetime appointment on the nation's largest federal appellate court, based in San Francisco and serving nine western states and two Pacific Island jurisdictions.

In a news release, Liu said he's "very humbled by this nomination and grateful to President Obama for this honor." He also thanked U.S. Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer for their support and confidence.

  • It just keeps getting better. How about CREATING your own wealth? ....instead of stealing that of others under the guise of "fairness".

  • what exactly of this makes him a commie?

  • Why the hell would you call someone from DEMOCRATIC Taiwan which fights against COMMUNIST Chinese a Communist?

  • @MidNightRider2001

    Your mother is a Communist

America is a representative republic ..never had a king ..your question is out of context & irrelevant(see red herring). But yes, if forced to live in a kingdom, one would have more opportunity under a successful king vs a mediocre one(see history). Saying the poor have no money but pay the majority of taxes is a silly absurdity(see math). Anything alive(except children & welfare recipients) must do something to stay alive(see nature). Everyone has opportunities to prosper in America.

  • @ConcernedAmericans

if success is evidence of opportunity, then are kingdoms full of opportunity because their kings are successful? the rich pay less taxes than the poor, if your born poor you may have to work 2 jobs to stay alive and your kids will be born into the same situation. The midle class has to rent themselves out to the rich (due to wage labor). any opportunity for profit is going to be capitalized on by those who already have the money and connections to exploit the opportunity.

  • @aSheeple

U R literally saying nothing. You may as well say "It's hard to climb mountains and very few people reach the summit of Everest," ...and then conclude, "It's not fair." Success is evidence of opportunity, not unfairness.

Again, the government has NEVER funded anything. ALL Gov. spending(pure research, universities, etc) is financed on the backs of productive taxpayers ...entrepreneurs, companies & individuals. It is they who you owe your thanks for the internet. You're welcome..;-)

tinyurl (dot) com/y6zst6 link about income and class mobility

also, the technology your using to connect to youtube (computers, the internet, fiver optics, etc...) were all developed with decades of government funding before they became profitable enough for businesses to use. in fact, governments around the world have to fund research for years before technologies are close enough to complete to be profitable. fusion electrical plants are in that stage now for example

  • @aSheeple

You've said nothing...except that success is difficult to achieve. Yes, life is hard. Those who overcome its difficulties are entitled to the wealth they create.

No research has EVER been funded by government. ALL funding for EVERYTHING government does comes from entrepreneurs, big companies and individuals ...the taxpayers.

Not 1 dime is needed to start a business if you have a marketable idea. Investors will give you the money if you have any ideas besides legislative looting.

  • @ConcernedAmericans

The data show that the odds of rising from the lower quintile to the top quintile is well under .1% while the odds of staying in the top quintile are quite good (poor stay poor and rich stay rich). most research is funded by the government, not entrepreneurs. most of the big companies were founded during the industrial revolution and have created dynasties that still exist today. 1% of the US population has 43% of the wealth. business cant be started unless you have money.

  • @stimpsonjcathoek No, that's the definition of "basic human decency".
