It had nothing to do with the children "being evil." It was done for purely political reasons only. The entire family was considered a danger to the new order and if left alive, would become a rallying point for any future attempts to reinstate the monarchy. If dead, the morale of any future attempts at a monarchy would be crushed. It was all politics and ambitious men who wanted power.
