It's awesome to hear live stuff from this early era, when EJ was still out to prove himself. He's always put on a good show, but the way he, Nigel, and Dee stretched themselves musically in the trio format was just wonderful. Thanks for posting!

Sat in the first row of the box seats for this show. Only his 24th in the U.S, he opened for The Byrds. He'd only had a few songs playing on the radio, but everyone sat up when he came out, dressed in a vaudeville suit, and I recall he had a beard. Nigel's drum kit was among the biggest I'd ever seen. What an amazing performance. He did a few of those "keyboard handstands," too. (He was 23; I was 14.)

Great post!!! Only Elton could do this. Raw and powerful. Nigel is just so amazing on drums. Dee's bass work rocks - especially in the segue between the two songs. The honky tonk break is again only something Elton could do. Reminiscent of the 11-17-70 medley. Love how the crowd can be heard chanting "higher" in the background. Shows how rockin' this concert would have been in person.

is this picture from this live performance?
