Kelly:
For over one hundred years, the American Association of University Women has been breaking through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance. AAUW advocates for women at every stage of life -- whether 5 years old and just starting out, or 85, with a life of contribution behind her -- AAUW's basic Value Promise is one of a woman's lifelong worth and contribution to society.
Donna:
AAUW members have been making history for more than a century. Our members played a key role in the fight for women's suffrage, and more recently AAUW members were present when President Obama signed his first bill into law, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
I'm very proud to be part of such a historic and influential tradition of educated women making a difference in the world.
Yana:
I received a post-doctoral fellowship in Mathematics from AAUW national. AAUW is committed to advancing educational and professional opportunities for women in the United States and around the world. I so appreciate all the support and mentoring I've received from this organization, that I want to give back. An area of particular mentoring interest to me is the one week science and math AAUW California Tech Trek camp for 13-year-old girls. Girls are typically under-represented in math and science, but we're changing all that with programs like Tech Track. The multi-generational mentoring is one of the best parts of this organization.
Kelly:
Today, AAUW is active on a national and local level wherever we see that women need assistance to have a fair chance in life. We advance gender equity through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Our goal is to ensure fairness of opportunity for all women and girls -- whether in campus STEM programs, in high school and collegiate sports, and throughout a woman's career and retirement life. We find participation enriching to our personal lives and thoroughly enjoy the Branch's outreach programs.
Donna:
I appreciate the life long friendships and intellectual stimulation I always get when interacting with AAUW members. We have all kinds of programs, from book clubs to advocating for political issues that AAUW supports. Our local AAUW San Diego Branch provides space for women to connect at whatever commitment level is important to them.
Yana:
Supporting women and girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics has always been a part of AAUW's mission. And now this mission is more crucial than ever to our country. As a nation, we are striving to remain a world leader in technology. How can we do that if half of our nation is so underrepresented in the STEM fields?
Kelly (Ending for RECRUITING VIDEO):
We'd love to welcome you as our guest at our next AAUW luncheon or public policy event. Please join us to see how you can make a difference as part of our community. You can check our website for the date of our next activity and a phone number to call to reserve your place at the table. We're looking forward to meeting you in person.
Kelly (Ending for FUNDRAISING VIDEO):
Please contact us through our website to learn about specific programs where you can make a difference for the next generation of girls right here in San Diego. Your financial contributions will help assure that local scholars are well represented in science, technology. Medicine and other fields that advance our future.
