A video showing Hammond Organ Wizard Tony Monaco with Boston jazz greats Mike Mele guitar and Steve Chaggaris drums slam-n it out at The Acton Jazz Cafe in Acton Massachusetts. This was the last song of two sold out, record breaking shows on a steamy summer night in July 2007. My friend Gwenn Vivian owner of The Acton Jazz Cafe graciously allowed me to produce this project at her wonderful club. There is no better venue for this kind of project. My co-producer and friend Cliff Spencer kept us on a straight and reasonable path during this project. It is easy to get carried away with a project like this and Cliff's level headed thinking was a big help. We were all very happy this project turned into one of the finest and most successful Organ Trio shows produced in New England to date. Tony is a monster organist and a prince of a guy. A fantastic player who gives everything he has to give to the audience. This is the rare and special quality about Tony which inspired me to produce this project with him. Steve Chaggaris and Mike Mele were the perfect compliment to Tony Monaco. These two guys are top notch and bring to the New England music scene an impressive level of commitment and expertise.
We were fortunate to have two good friends, Terry ("What's that burning smell") and Wayne ("you can't use that 5000 watt light Dale") engineering the details of our stage lighting. That's a story in it self. The set design and lighting added a magical element to the shows and Terry's masterful lighting transitions pushed the visual aspects over the top. Many thanks to Terry and Wayne for their conscientiousness.

Special thanks to the talented and gracious Tyra Penn at WICN radio for our live radio interview.

Special thanks to Boston's Eric Jackson of WGBH radio for our live "speak and spin" radio interview.

Special thanks to Tyler Drabick of Boss Organ for his above and beyond the call completion of my 1958 C-3 restoration which was used for this show. The Leslie's go to 11. That's one more than 10!!

  • Yes!

  • I've been to a couple of shows at the AJC and there all really good... plus the french fries are amazing

  • I really want to use an exerpt from this in my non comercail senior project, but Im not sure how and hows permission I need. Is it ok if I use the audio from this video if I seek approval with the artists?

  • Well what can I say? ***outtafreakinsite...

This clip seems a little slow on the takeoff, I'll admit. But then-whoa, wait till 4:40 minutes into it and you are at max cap for the transistors in your youtube to handle it, I'll warn ya.:)

Beautiful thing is, it starts out in classical Jimmy Smith fashion with the camptown rhythm of Johnny Comes Marchin' Home. Sounds like JOS at first.

The solo by TM at 5: 10 to 6:30 is insane...

If I were in this country I would HAVE to go hear them at a gig.
