Kenton gives a lesson on how to prune an olive tree. Imagine this, multiplied 850 times, and you can understand what our week has been like!

To all those who have said that they do it with a saw, great! We don't do that here, viva la difference!

  • know how you feel, just been through this with 750 in the clare valley, south australia. Hardest job ever

  • @thatstheone87 Sure is hard, I agree! Nice to get olive oil as your reward, though

  • Just started pruning I find that large seceteer, I don't know if thats spelt correctly, are good and a crescent shaped saw for bigger branches , however a small axe is used alot where we grow our olives.

  • @Artbag1 Thanks for the comments! The professional guys here use the crescent shaped saw too for big branches. Where do you grow your olives?

  • @casatyr Southern Spain

  • Use a saw my friend what's with the axe?

  • When the trees are hard pruned (every 4 years here) we have professionals come in who use a saw + a hatchet. In our area, when you prune the suckers, the locals always use a hatchet, just like we did. Maybe people do it differently in different places.

  • i like the sound of your sharp and accurate axe. good job you have 800 trees. Have you heard about the difference between tearing with a saw or slicing with an axe. i like the film and your comments are great. great advice. I prune olive trees in south of spain

  • @casatyr I'm in Extremadura, Cáceres, not had the finca long and when I got it it hadn't been worked for a few years so I've got some catching up to do, just learning on the job and from books, and what the locals tell me.
