I saw them live. I can't count how many times (guessing maybe 15 or so). It still wasn't enough. I was in SF in college '66-'68. Went to the Fillmore every weekend even at the hefty price os $3.50 for the big acts like Cream and Hendrix. Butterfield, the Dead, Big Brother, the Airplane, and others were only $2.50.

Wailing!!! Hey, do you have a recording of Butterfield playing "Juke?" I can't believe this isn't available (I'm pretty sure he did it at Newport) I heard only the opening lines, and he just pulverizes and resurrects the song, with that unique Butterfield sense of time.

Obviously, this is very good, urgent and pacy
more so than the opening track on the debut album. The drumming is quite manic clearly Davenport and I can hear why Paul Rothchild was so keen on a debut album of live recordings which never came off. Mark Naftalin the keyboard player bought out a CD 'Strawberry Jam' which might have this on it. The PBBB were very hot around this point.

You clearly have a great understanding and feel for their music.Did you ever see them live,and if so how many times?I lost my copy of "Strawberry Jam" years ago and never got around to replacing it. I do have the live "East West" cd that Mark Naftalin released a few years ago.God how I wish this band stayed together for ten more years.We can only imagine what other brilliant music they would have produced.
