@carlodangelo1 I have to agree with you, as I gave it a miss..I don't think her heart was in it, as she said in an interview with Ellen at the time that her record company pressured her into doing it...I find the songs ramble on and on, however check out the song 'letting go' done live in the studio...the song's ok, but her delivery was excellent.
I think some of the material from her latest CD, is outstanding, namely, 'The same Hello', 'Alone in the World' and "What Matters most"
I was knocked out by Barbra's voice on Guilty Pleasures. I love anything Barbra does, but she has not sounded this strong since. However, the word is that she sounds very strong (and even BELTS) on the upcoming "What Matters Most".
Regarding Barbra not caring about the album, she did. She was hesitant about ever doing a followup to "Guilty" because she knew sequels seldom artistically or commercially equally the original, no matter how much effort or care go into the sequel, and that in the arts timing is everything and the atmosphere into which the original work was released may not be re-capturable. She knew all this going into the "Guilty Pleasures" project but did try her best.
@waynebrasler Another thing is that Streisand and Gibb should have done another album within 5 years after the first and there should have been a least a nice collaboration between the two throughout the years on other albums why they waited till they were both in the sixties 25 years to get together again is beyond me. Guilty was her biggest selling album since A star is born soundtrack and they wait 25 years and I am like WTF? the story behind this is a great Mystery to her fan's.
@waynebrasler I am a fan for close to 40 years the album did not do well because she simply did not give a shit about it and could not be bothered, case closed. I waited 25 years for Barbra and Gibb to get together again and I was very disapointed I expected something really special something that was going to be really magical and the album was like a rush job. I expected it to at least come close to the original especially with Gibb brother material. Guilty sold 25 million copies, come on
This is one of the standouts on this wonderful album. For me, Guilty Pleasures has the vibe and sound of her 70's albums. Had it been released in her heyday it would have been huge, but for whatever reason she wasn't big on promoting it. Maybe some day we'll find out why; perhaps in her memoirs.
OH MY GOD! I fucking melt with this video!
