This is one on one, this is understandable to me, this is why we have handcuffs, tasers, and pepper spray, and multiple officers. They don't have that.
Bottom line: You WILL do what I say, or I will unleash violence upon you, because I AM in charge here, and I have the state behind me to back me up on it. The state has a monopoly on legal violence.

I have taken much worse ass kickings from cops. I was trying to fight back (poorly). I would take the ass kicking ANY DAY next to the long term consequences that come with the booking.
Beating to extract a confession? That is done in public, in India? The police station is really that crowded?
That's not what happened there: Even in India they have clearance rates. Maybe these guys need to invest in handcuffs. They can't be THAT expensive. Pepper spray? Yes, you ARE going inside. NOW.
