I'm not heartless, just realistic: people like this are defects, they're genes have a major flaw and that's why they look, act and are different. You can pretend they are normal people all you want, it won't make it so.
And threating them like they are won't help them either, they need special care. Care they wouldn't have gotten 200 years ago. 200 years ago, they would have been killed.

I think that although this is very touching, the fact that this had to be on TV is kinda sad. Of course ds people can become prom king/queen. Seriously, this shouldnt exactly be rare.
