"Coney" is a feature-length documentary that examines the complexities of gentrification in one of New York City's most historic neighborhoods, Coney Island. One of the goals of the film is to help the developer (Thor Equities), the community, and the city work toward a solution that keeps the true spirit of Coney Island and its historic amusement center alive for a long time to come.

We are currently seeking financial funding so that we can continue working on the film throughout the end of what might be the last season for amusements at Coney Island. If you would like to find out how to make a tax-deductible donation or to find out more information about the film, please visit our website: http://www.coneydocumentary.com

  • Sadly, this is what happens when city builders adopt a Robert Moses mindset of building things regardless if they are needed or even if they are wanted. Good luck to you Gene Ritter and Friends of the Boadwalk. May you be as effective as Jane Jacobs in conserving your community. On a side note to the filmakers, why are the Polar Bears leaving Coney Island?

  • The Polar Bears are not leaving Coney Island--this scene is from their last swim of the season. Perhaps this needs more clarification. Thanks!

  • If they want to renovate, God I hope that they stick to the Coney Island feel of it. If anything, they should try to make it like it once was, not into something its not. It would be great to see the Coney Island of yesteryear but as someone else on the comments here said, Coney Island isnt vegas, its Coney Island.

  • I would be sad as well. Why is it that cities don't care about their heritage? You can have retail anywhere, but there is only one Coney Island. Why not restore it instead to a certain extent at least.

Yuck to hotels and Vegas. Vegas is great - IN VEGAS.

  • bitsx your so rigth people like robert moses drove teams like the dodgers away from brooklyn and countless amount of other thing's around the city's history look what happened when fred trump bougth the pavillion of fun he knocked it down beofore anything could be done to turn it into a land mark

  • Oh, believe me - us Polar Bears are here to stay. See you at Coney!!! :)

  • i would hate to see coney island gone

  • Interesting to see your video. This is a part of Coney Island that I have not focused on as a film-maker. Thanks for the invite.

  • I've lived in Coney Island for most of my life and it really pisses me off that they're planing to build hotels, condos, etc. Coney Island is, in my opinion, the best place in NYC. If they wanna renovate then they should just add more ride and refurbish those tht are there.

  • i would hate to see coney island turn into a modern vegas-style complex. sure coney island needs to be renovated, but it should be in the style of the coney of the past.

nice clip! can't wait to see the rest of the film.
