  • Wow....Regis pretty much gave her the answer. I wonder how far she got in school...Seriously, If she wasn't an actor what the fuck would she be doing?

  • I think the point is that Patricia Heaton is a a religious blowhard, so this was to knock her down a peg by putting her lack of basic math on display.

  • "fission fission, walk the duck, cookie-- add to Carie add to fission to get a cookie!"

  • @mphello Same here :)

  • This super fast arithmetical calculation, while it's all very good for show,

and certainly employs very intelligent arithmetic groupings in such a way to maximize the entertainer's ability to remember the numbers,

and even though most anyone with practice can achieve it, is entirely overkill for practical purposes, both inside and outside of math, and it is NOT representative of what mathematicians mainly do: prove theorems.

  • @SirArghPirate

= I have to admit I had to stop and think for a moment. =

Same here, too. And I have a math PhD. Nevertheless, she SHOULD have gotten it.

    SHE is American (I assume).

If they asked me to do the conversion in terms of British pense, quid, and pound, I would fail,

because I don't know how many quid are in a British pound, and it's funny all these years on the internet I never bothered to take 2 seconds to look the answer up on wikipedia (which I will do now).

  • I have to admit I had to stop and think for a moment. But then again, I'm not that familiar with the american money system. You don't say values in terms of dollars, for instance, 'Seven dollars, fifty'?

  • Yup... this says it all America... :(

  • Golly. How does she remember to breath?

  • @heroiclegendxxx Yeah, I thought those were deicimals at first too, but they must be commas. Its 57,683^2=3 billion, etc.

  • @YOUPSYCHO thats not the fail the answer is... 57 times 57 equals 3billion??

  • I assume she was just confused in the situation. When faced with problems that sound complicated, people give up before even attempting it, so it doesn't matter how hard the question really is.

Btw: This doesn't have much to do with math in my opinion. Math is for me finding a way to calculate the length of a railroad track, not doing the actual calculation.
