Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, takes you through all of the steps necessary to properly lubricate a break open style shotgun. This technique can be applied to numerous side-by-side, over and under, and single barrel shotguns, delaying the effects of long term wear and use.
This technique is taught using a Tipton moly based grease rather than oil. This prevents oil from running into the wood and softening it. Wear points on the receiver are addressed first, specifically the knuckle and the hinge pin. Other areas that require lubrication are the hook and bite on the barrels. The lubrication of choke tubes is also discussed.

  • Question for response: how often would you recommend lubrication?

  • @chaz706 The frequency of lubrication is debatable but many individuals choose to lube when they give their firearm a good cleaning. Frequent lubrication is never a bad thing, but remember to remove the old lube as it may contain debris or buildup from shooting.

  • Respond to this video... question for cleaning. I just wanted to know how the oiling should be done on the gun? I just bought a new super nova pump and the shotgun at first look is completely dry in the gun and after 150 rounds the powder residue was barely visible. I know that there should be oil somewhere on the gun for metal rubbing but every other shotgun I've done this with causes the gun to clog up very quickly with powder residue. Any suggestions on this?

  • @fishblade2 Slip 2000 EWL Gun Oil will not evaporate and will not become sticky or dry out - it's our product number 816005.

  • My gun is way to tight. How do I make it loser?

  • @vicariousreality. Stoeger makes a synthetic stock double barrel.

  • Why does no one make a break action double barrel with a synthetic stock

  • what about cleaning the shotgun barrel? Shouldn't you use oil on it? I have learned from others that even on pistols you don't use oil except on the barrel and dab some on other places. Would you recommend using grease on the pistol blowback pistols? What about oiling the gun at all to help preserve it while it rest in a case? If oil would be used then would you dry it off throughly before use? What about stainless steel guns for cleaning and storage?

  • I love the fact the isnt smiling in his old videos. Just abit too fake happy in my opinion .

  • what grease are you using to lubricate the over and under shotgun?
