Upper Rouge River Salmon Float Trip..Fantastic fun fill 3 days of salmon and steelhead fishing the Upper Rogue River with guide Harold Hanson with his drift boat. Score 1st day hooked 5 landing 2 with one released wild fish (estimate 25 pounds) and one keeper. We caught all fish on 1st day with sardine wrapped Kwikfish and nothing caught on roe...2nd day hooked 9 landing 2 with one wild released fish and one keeper. One on salmon roe and rest on Kwikfish...... 3rd day hooked 7 landing 4 with one steelhead kept and releasing a big wild salmon (estimate 25 pounds). We stayed at Edgewater Inn in Shady Cove and we launched at Richard Cole launch and floated approximately 14 miles. Early morning producing the most activity. Great weather and safe drift. Highly recommended float...........

Basically how they work is the eye of the hook is at the bend of the hook and the leader line goes through a flexible plastic sleeve that goes over leader line and when the sleeve is slid down over the shank of the hook it is set and fish just like a regular fishhook. The sleeve has a second line tied to the top of this and parallels the main leader line and is attach by a sliding 3 turn uniknot tied with thread. When you slid the red knot up by pinching it or using a pocket comb it slides the sleeve up and the hook rotates and self releases.

Fish that have their air bladder inflate and float can be kill by birds and other predators. Using a SFD™ inline with standard fishing gear gets the fish back down and lets the water pressure recompress their air bladder. Do this with minimum loss in fishing time.
