If by the age of 14 for women or 15 for men no signs of puberty have started then they should be referred to a specialist endocrinologist for review. Being told they are a "late starter" or "late bloomer" can delay treatment and cause more problems in adult life.

  • Wisdom teeth normally come through between the ages of 17 and 25.

They don't always prove to be a problem and only have to be removed if the impact on the other teeth.

  • What harm is it doing if you don't start pubety until 16/17? Shurley it is more harmful if you start puberty early like at 12 or erlier? They should delay early pubert too. Chgildren need to be children.

  • In theory there is nothing wrong with starting puberty at 16 as long as you know puberty is eventually going to start.

The whole point of KS and HH is that puberty does not even start unless it is diagnosed and treated. People with KS and HH can get into their 20's or even 30's without even starting puberty.

KS and HH are very rare conditions and it takes a specialist to identify the difference between a "late developer" and a person who will not even start puberty without treatment.

  • Yes, children need to be children but a 17 year old is not a child, they are a young adult and if they have not even started puberty by that age they should be examined by an endocrinologist.

It is very difficult to describe the social and emotional impact of not going through puberty even when you are getting into your 20's, after being well left behind by your peer group. The earlier a person with KS / HH starts treatment the better chance they have of an almost normal development.

  • Being diagnosed so young is not very common at all, unless there is a strong family history.

There is no one single genetic test for Kallmann syndrome and less than 5% of cases can be diagnosed through currently available genetic testing.

The genetics of Kallmann syndrome are a long way off from being understood.

This is totall different than Klinefelter syndrome where the genetic test is very straight forward and gives a clear cut answer.

  • What age do your wisdom teath come through, mine have been thinking about it but dont seam to do anything, hell I just want my widom teath.

  • If a man hasent started puberty he could always go around with a big bottle of sulphur hexafluride so he sounds like his voice hase broken, then people might take him seriousley.

  • @meatisdeliciouse If they havent started puberty till they are 18 then they should be given treatment but certainly not before 16. I think it is eaqualy damaging thet boys start puberty at 12. That should be held back till they are at leat 13 minimum. I just think it is cute that some boys don't start pubert yntil ther are 15 or 16, think of Justin Beiber.

  • Kallmann syndrome (KAL) and Klinefelter (KLI) do have some similar symptoms but they are completley different disorders.

KLI is a male only condition

KAL affects both men & women

KLI has increased levels of FSH / LH

KAL has very low level of FSH / LH

KLI has a precise genetic cause

KAL has no known genetic cause in 70% of cases.

KLI can have lower than average testosterone levels which become worse over time.

KAL will have very low testosterone which does not change over age
