This is a tribute to one of Everton's all time greats, Neville Southall. In his prime he was with out dout the greatest goalkeeper in the world and helped Everton to the Eueopean cup winners cup, two league championships and two F.A cups and kept goal in some of Everton's most memorable games. He played a record 93 times for Wales and made a club record 750 appearances in all competitions for Everton. Big Nev was also awarded the football writers player of the year in 1985 and in 1995 was given an MBE for his services to football. In December 2004 he was voted number one all time Everton cult hero by Evertonians, Thanks for the memories big man.

I honestly and truthfully believe he was the best goalkeeper ever. If given a choice between Casillas, Schmeichel, Buffon or Nev I'd think about Schmeichel for a bit, ignore the other two and then obviously pick Big Nev.

Im actually Chelsea fan, but i was lucky enough to see Neville Southall play few times down at The Bridge towards the back end of his Everton career in the mid to late 90's, great goalkeeper, especially playing consistantly for the one club for how many years?.

My best memories of Neville standing behind the goal and listening to him barrack the defense. The time he called Pat Nevin what sounded to me " Patty Patty.... you cunt" for losing the ball I'll never forget that. Some games on MTOD specially the early 90 the highlights consisted of nothing but Nev saving us time and time again. A True Blue Legend is Nev.

Brilliant goalkeeper and a top man as well. As a Wales fan, I can recall some games where he was almost unbeatable. One game in the late 80's away in Holland (Gullit, Van Basten et al) particularly sticks in the memory, when the headline in one paper the next day was "Holland 1 Southall 0".

I am an Everton fand and biased but i honestly believe Neville Southall was the greatest goalkeeper I have ever seen live or on TV. He was superb.
