I find one of the most rewarding parts of listening to Springsteen's music is tracing the lives of the characters in his songs. Mary has had a rough road in his songs. The optimisim she projected in Thunder Road was shattered by The River and all but non-existant by Dry Lightening. In that vein, the young Wild Billy in Wild Billy's Circus Story is now laid to rest. Using it as an anlogy to explore the loss of Danny is just wonderful, human story telling.
