READY captures a man and a woman painting their faces. There is no explaination for the activity or the relationship between the two people. The viewer is left to ponder what is between them and what they are doing. Are they preparing to face the day putting on makeup or some kind of mask? The piece focuses on the lead female. The dialogue is minimal. We watch her as she contemplates the situation, the man and perhaps his history with other women. The action exposes a brief moment, 2 minutes, yet the odd snicker, a gaze, body movements and non-action, transmit a rich resource of data. The piece is an exercise in deception, exposure, mixed messages and alienation.
