Short takes from a visit to Dennis Yuzenas' classroom in Bak Middle School of the Arts. Dennis has a visual and active style of teaching, called "Edu-tainment" -- there are at least 12 techniques to pick up from this 9 minute video. This video was edited by VisualAndActive.com, a collaboration of teachers who want to share edu-taining techniques with colleagues and to raise expectations by parents and students for excellent presentation in learning. Students are expected to give performances of their understanding, which is more difficult and more varied for assessment than a standardized test. Students and teachers work harder. Portfolios assist teachers and students to see progress. Electronic portfolios are kept on disks and hard drives. For more information contact Dennis Yuzenas at yuzenasdennis AT bellsouth DOT com or visualandactive AT gmail DOT com. If you want to have your teaching evaluated and if you want to share techniques, video your class and post it on youtube, then send us the link and we will evaluate it. We might add your performance to the list of "teachers who are edu-taining." Video by Steve McCrea 954 646 8246 call or write for information about workshops and how you can help turn around schools with high expectations for what happens in the classroom. We support parents who want to "drop in" and see what goes on in the classroom. We support instant evaluations. We want parents and politicians and taxpayers to see how teachers and students work together to create portfolios -- send us your comments and suggestions.

  • hey mt y its justin for ur 3rd period

  • Do you? Never mind thenn. :P

But there Are a bunch of minorities, even if you may not recognize them

  • @Jarwain I actually do go there... "Shows how much you know"...

  • omg mr y is on utube!!

  • Psh, Shows how much you know, then, about Bak. Specially since you don't go there, like I do, and see all the people in all the classes for yourself.

  • Believe me, theres ALOT more minority groups than you can See in the video. Some you didn't recognise, specially if the Only one you recognised was me.

  • well, that's why they're called minorities, plus, most of the minorities at Bak are, and I don't mean to be racist, but it's true, are in regular or advanced, and this is gifted

  • LOL.

  • lol, try *that* with an ESE class (meaning slow learners) at a Middle School in the heart of WPB (meaning, the ghetto). I did not see a single minority child in this film (well, other than the asian boy at the computer. I guess he's the token minority brain-child). P-U-U-U-L-E-E-E-E-Z-E!! It's great to be able to employ 12 techniques of "Edu-tainment" at an Arts academy. Now try a hardened throw-away school in PBC and compare!
