Absoulutely he feared Itachi, Itachi could have easily ruined his plans, not to mention Madara is only a shadow of his former self having lost most of his power in his defeat to the First, but knowing Itachi who was willing to kill his own family to protect the village, Itachi would have most definitely killed Madara if he could have.

I felt that way too, but if you read carefully it almost seemed as if Madara took measures to protect himself from Itachi as if he feared for his life.

do u beliv that uchiha clan and their brother clan(the firs hokage clan) are rivals? itachi is a good guy and madara is a bad guy carry;s his pride bcus his beaten by the first hokage then madara and his other brother wit sharigan ask him to kill hm to earn the ultimate sharingan then madara used it in bad ways.. and now he ruined the clan... and pein i cant belive that killing pressure leads him to open the incredible eye power

It is when you try entering a village, that not only have Uchiha's but other various clans for support, There would be too much risk for Madara to run into Konoha trying to get a Uchiha.

I believe Pein said he had to reveal his identity to Jiraiya or he may of not of won. I don't know about Itachi beating Madara, but Madara getting his hands on Sasuke, and suddenly Sasuke shooting Amaratesu, was suppose to be suprising, guess good thing madara suspected treason +Sharingan natural ability.
