Old Japanese military song or "kamikaze song" with an authentic film material from the year 1945. During World War II, soldiers of the same corps called themselves "douki no sakura" (Cherry blossoms of the same class/period), implying (and, perhaps, convincing themselves) that they were happy to fall and die for their country and their loved ones.

(kisama to ore to ha douki no sakura)
(onaji hei gakkou no niwa ni saku)
(sai ta hana na ra chiru no ha kakugo)
(migoto chiri masho no kuni no tame)

(kisama to ore to ha douki no sakura)
(onaji hei gakkou no niwa ni saku)
(naze ka ki ga au te wakare rare nu)

(kisama to ore to ha douki no sakura)
(onaji koukuu tai no niwa ni saku)
(aoi da yuuyake minami no sora ni)
(ima da kaera nu ichiban ki)

(kisama to ore to ha douki no sakura)
(onaji koukuu tai no niwa ni saku)
(are hodo chikat ta sono hi mo mata zu)
(na ze ni chit ta ka shin da no ka)

(kisama to ore to ha douki no sakura)
(hanarebanare ni chiro u tomo)
(hana no to ono yasukunijinja)
(haru no kozue ni sai te ao u)

English translation by Emiko Ohnuki-Tierney:

You and I are two cherry blossoms.
We bloom in the shadow of a pile of sand bags.
Since we are flowers, we are doomed to fall.
Let us fall magnificently for the country.

You and I are two cherry blossoms.
We bloom on the branch of the same squad.
Though not brothers, we became good friends
and cannot forget each other.

You and I are two cherry blossoms.
We both bloom for his Mejesty's country.
We stand side by side during the day
and we embrace each other at night.
We dream in the bed of bullets.

You and I are two cherry blossoms.
Even if we fall separately.
The capital of flowers is Yasukuni Shrine.
We meet each other in the treetops in spring.

  • No hate speech here, nor violent rhetoric.

  • mhh I think in "san" is a mistake:

(onahi koukuu tai no niwa ni saku)

    Must be: (Onaji...)

    Or am I wrong?

  • @TokubetsuKogekitai Oh, of course it must be "onaji". It's only typo. But same line is correct in other verse of the lyrics. You're very observant. Well... Be satisfied. I made that Romaji for you very quickly, less than 20 minutes. Okay? ;)

  • Have anyone the Lyrics in Romaji??^^

  • @TokubetsuKogekitai I added Romaji of the lyrics to the video description. Please, check it again and you find it. Note: verse 4 is not sung in this version, okay? Hope this will help you. :) Best regards, Teisuka

  • 0:53 Even when shot down, the Kamikaze Warrior still manages to crash his plane onto the American ship, very impressing.

  • in 二 ”血肉” is chiniku in the song

  • Im very proud to be a quarter Japanese
