Seestachelbeeren (Pleurobrachia pileus), Rippenquallen, tanzen im Meerwasser. Wenn sie zur Fortbewegung mit ihren Wimpernp schlagen, laufen je nach Beleuchtung irisierende Wellen über ihre Rippen.
Sea gooseberries (P. pileus), comb jellies, dancing in the seawater. Iridescend waves run along the combs when they move by cilia strokes, depending on the illumination.

  • These are fabulous little creatures. Are they a similar size to gooseberries or do they just look like them?

  • It's more the looks than the size that matters for the trivial name. They can be smaller, of equal size or larger. The ones in the clip are a bit larger than actual gooseberries.
