@workkrage yes , in this case we are using the shellac as a prestain or blotch control , to prevent it from absorbing unevenly, the shellac is used very thin, to help equilize the surface of the owwd so it will dye or stain evenly.. and not blotch

Sealer under dye? I thought dye was supposed to penetrate the wood. Wouldn't even a thin coat of sealer prevent penetration and absorption?
