certainly makes you think when someone comes out with such a sweeping statement, why can't people learn to get on? i have no problem with fishing, its a wonderful way to get fresh food when on a long self supported kayak trip(abroad). i make a point of avoiding anglers on the bank in the UK, steering well clear of their lines, and greeting them with a friendly smile. Rivers are amazing places, and we should share. Just my opinion...though i do know it is echoed by most of the paddling world.
Actually we do pay a yearly membership. We also help to look after our rivers by cutting back fallen trees and collecting litter etc. At Ramelton weir we work with the fisherman by not paddling if they are fishing. In the past they have supported us by not fishing when we have held slalom events. We are after all both rivers users and face the same problems of access rights and enviromental issues. Therefore we need to work together. What's your problem with kayakers?
canoists kayakers there all the same...at least us anglers contribute to the health and looking after the river...i wonder would they be as quick to go down the weir if they had to pay a yearly membership???????????
